The history of Klitrosen
Klitrosen – the most beaufitul spot in the kingdom
1916 – Badepension Klitrosen – Karoline (Line) Kjeldgaard Pedersen (1890-1969) Marinus Pedersen (1889-1967) founded Badepension Klitorsen in 1916 when they got married.
In addtion to Karoline and Marinus, Karoline´s brother Peder participated in the operation. In 1905, he built the original building with a single dormer. The building was colloquially called “Fattigården” (The Poorhouse) and was expanded with an additional dormer when the guesthouse was established, providing eight sleeping spaces. Klitrosen emerged as a cozy little family-run guesthouse.
1964 – A Family Enterprise – after Karoline and Marinus, the hotel was taken over in 1964 by Kirsten and Carl Henrik Christensen. who had previously managed Løkken Badehotel. They built a new motel wing, allowing guests to park directly in front of their room doors.
1980 – Klitrosen as a Venue and Conference Hotel – in 1980, their son and daughter-in-law, Erna and Niels Chr. Christensen, took over Klitrosen and further developed it into a venue and conference hotel, meeting the growing demand for modern conveniences.
They modernized the kitchen and added a reception area and a large banquet hall in 1989.
Erna and Niels Chr. ran the hotel until the end of 2002
2002 – Turbulent Times – After Erna and Niels, Klitrosen had several different owners for short periods: Per Sand (2002-2007), Gert Hauge (2005-2007), and Kim Madsen (2005-2022).
Per Sand renovated the “Pancake House”, converting it into a small Bed & Breakfast rental.
2011 – New Era at the Historic Hotel Klitrosen – in 2011, Rikke Ejsenhardt Muus and Mads Muus took over the operation of Hotel Klitrosen. They continued running the hotel as a holiday and event venue and aimed to develop the property with vacation homes.
In 2012, the first six vacation homes were completed opposite the hotel, later sold to private buyers.
2016 – 100-year anniversary – on September 26, 2016, Klitrosen celebrated its 100-year anniveersary. Unfortunately, it was also the day of the tragic fire at the historic fire at the historic Svinkløv Badehotel, their “neighbors” along the coast.
Despite this tragic event, Rikke and Mads chose to celebrate the anniversary with a reception in the Grand Hall, welcoming guests familiar with Klitrosen´s long history.
“We are both honored and humbled, and we hope Klitrosen will still be here in another 100 years,” said Rikke Ejsenhardt Muus in her welcome speech.
2017 – Hotel Klitrosen is leased – 2017 marked the year when Hotel Klitrosen was leased to Helle Petersen (formerly employed under Rikke Ejsenhardt Muus and current owner of Rønnes Hotel). The goal was to restore the hotel to its former glory as a venue and conference hotel.
During 2021, then-owner Kim Madsen decided to sell Hotel Klitrosen.
2022 – The new Strandhotel Klitrosen – Villy Jæger and Carmilla Tegen purchased Klitrosen in March 2022
