Our Initiatives and Commitment to Sustainability

At Strandhotel Klitrosen, we aim to lead the way towards a more responsible hospitality industry.
For us, sustainability is not just about eco-labels – it’s about creating a holistic experience where nature, our guests, and the local community go hand in hand.

Here, the true Nordic atmosphere, talented chefs, and local producers supplying high-quality seasonal ingredients form the foundation of a stay with care. It’s all about respect – for nature, the unspoiled dune heath, and the people who live and work here.

Since Carmilla and Villy took over the hotel in March 2022, a clear green direction has been set. Every day, small and large initiatives bring us closer to a more sustainable future.

  • 2025: Replacement of oil boiler with heat pump

  • 2024: Green purchasing policy

  • 2024: First climate accounts

  • 2024: Green Key certification

  • 2023: Installation of EV charging stations

  • 2023: Installation of solar panels

Sustainable Guest Amenities

  • We offer our guests products from HUMDAKIN

  • Collaboration with Neptun Laundry – a local, environmentally friendly laundry service in North Jutland

  • Cloth napkins in the restaurant – reducing energy use

  • 100% cotton hand towels in public restrooms – also reducing energy use

  • Bathrobes are OEKO-TEX (Standard 100) and washed in-house to avoid unnecessary transport

  • Restaurant furniture produced by Danish design company TAKT, focusing on sustainability and timeless design. Tables and chairs are made from oak and are 100% eco-certified – with wood from sustainable forests, water-based lacquer, flat-pack delivery, and replaceable parts.

Sustainable Food Concept

  • Local and regional products – reducing transport distance and CO₂ emissions

  • Zero food waste – we use (almost) everything in the kitchen

  • Focus on social dining at parties instead of buffets – avoiding large amounts of food waste while creating a family-style dining experience that guests truly enjoy

  • Daily special – based on what’s in the fridge

  • Use of organic ingredients

  • Emphasis on homemade products – such as salmon and cold cuts

Solar Power

In winter 2023, we installed solar panels on our guestroom wing, covering one-third of the hotel’s energy needs.

Cleaning Products

We use an ECO environmentally friendly cleaning system in the main building (kitchen and restaurant) as well as for room cleaning.

EV Charging

In 2023, we installed two EV charging stations for guests arriving in electric or hybrid cars.

Waste Sorting

We sort our waste – and encourage guests to use the public sorting bins available on the premises.

Eco-Friendly Room Initiatives

  • Sustainable soap, shampoo, and lotion from Danish brand HUMDAKIN

  • Guests are encouraged to reuse towels via in-room signage – reducing laundry, water waste, and detergent use

  • Guests can choose whether they want daily cleaning – communicated via a flexible door sign – saving energy and cleaning products

Our Ambition

We want to inspire our guests to be part of the journey. When you stay with us, you can enjoy your experience with peace of mind – knowing that together we are taking small green steps towards a more sustainable future.
